The curriculum at Compass College will be developed in alignment with the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration, ensuring that teaching and learning practices reflect nationally recognised educational priorities.
The curriculum framework will place strong emphasis on the development of literacy and numeracy skills, while also supporting students’ social and emotional development, civic understanding, and sense of Australian identity and shared values. The overarching aim is to prepare students to become successful learners, creative and confident individuals, and active, informed citizens.
To achieve these outcomes, Compass College will adopt an educational model that recognises the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of each learner.
Learning will be delivered in small, supportive environments that allow teachers to adapt curriculum delivery and learning progression to individual student needs. Instruction will be personalised, meaningful, and purposeful, with targeted one-to-one support provided where additional assistance is required.
Curriculum development is currently underway and will be finalised as part of the regulatory approval process.
The curriculum will be informed by:
the Australian Curriculum and Queensland requirements
best practice in Special Assistance School education
trauma-informed and wellbeing-focused approaches
consultation with experienced educators and specialists
Compass College is currently in its establishment phase, progressing regulatory approvals and securing a suitable premises, with a planned opening in 2027. Further curriculum detail will be published once approvals are complete.
